"The cliff dwellings of the ancestral Pueblo people are some of the most mysterious and breathtaking sights in North America. Living primarily in the Southwestern United States, the Puebloans have one of the oldest cultures in the country, dating back thousands of years. When the Spaniards invaded the region in the 16th century, they were stunned to find complex and well-built multistoried homes on top of high mesas. They called these villages 'pueblos,' a term that later referred to the indigenous people as well. Despite the intrusion of Spanish and other European forces, 19 Pueblos remain.
